Orkut SUCKS. I'm going private again and never going back. Seriously, this makes me ill. Since my last two posts, I've had 8 hits from Brazil (which if you have a personal or family blog that features children on it and get a lot of traffic from Brazil, I guarentee your kids photos are being stolen and used for foreign sickos social networking fun and games). Anyway, since the last post of Kaden's newborn pics I've gotten 5 of those 8 hits. No wonder because of the nature of the photos. Makes me livid.
I have an orkut profile just so that I can search for my kids photos. I've never found them but I've gotten messages on flickr from other reputible members saying they've seen Dakota and Levi's photos being used on there. When I went on today after I saw that I was getting traffic from Brazil again, I saw SO many innocent girls photos being used as profiles for these scumbags. And I pretty much freaked out on the inside. I don't know if they're linking from specific posts (so I'm deleting the last two or three, which pisses me off because those are Kaden's newborn pictures). I see on my site tracker that a lot of them are googling "David and Corin" which means they come here often enough to remember our names. And also means most of them are smart enough not to come here directly from orkut. Except for the one who did today, which is what tipped me off.
So this blogs going private in 3 days. I'm bummed to have it go down this way. But it's just how the world is now. So sad. It's not worth it. Guess I'll just email pics to friends and family to stay connected because I don't trust any other social networking sites either. So pathetic.

Oh my, I would have went INSANE on someone in your position. How would I find out if someone was using photos of my child? Do you just get lucky enough for people to tell you or can you search online somehow?
Are you going completely private or will it be friends only? I'd be so sad to lose track of you & your family... : (
I just looked at my stats.... guess I might do the private thing too for a while. I have brazil hits and people following I have NO idea who they are

I just got lucky and had people tip me off on flickr. Then I got an orkut account and you can search through all the profiles, which 80% of them use little 4 or 5yr. old girls pictures as their icons, so you know they're fake. I would suggest hiding your site tracker and getting an invisible one like getclicky.com or sitemeter.com (although you have to pay to make that one invisible) then watching to see where your traffic is coming from.
@ Emily: If you're getting repeated traffic from Brazil, I would definitely be alarmed.
That is sickening, Corin. So sad to think horrifying things like this are happening in our world.
Would love to keep reading if you will be keeping your friends blog to include 'internet friends.'

I'll have to add the clicky tracker back onto my blog too, it use to be there but was lost when I changed my background...I did have some hits from Brazil but thought nothing of it, interesting. Just when you think no one else would even care to look at a personal family/friends blog then you have to look out for those scuzzy guys...

@ Mel: It's shocking who's looking at your stuff when you really look into it. I've felt so gross inside for a long time about the public nature of our private life, and this isn't the first time I've decided to make things more private, but it will be the last.
